Political advertising

Postby GuyP » Fri Apr 21, 2017 11:03 am

Does anyone know if there is any legislation that would affect me as a publisher, should I be approached to run political advertising by a party on my hyperlocals (hasn't happened yet but...), as opposed to restrictions on the political party themselves, esp. at election time?
Cheers
Guy

Hi Guy,

Thanks for the question.

The publication of political advertisements in non-broadcast media (newspapers) is exempt from the British Code of Advertising, Sales Promotion and Direct Marketing.

See here:
https://www.asa.org.uk/news/political-advertising.html

And here:

Hope that helps.

Matt
