The Rochdale Online website was probably one of the first dedicated local news and information websites in the country. Launched 19 years ago, in June 1998, as one man's hobby, Rochdale Online became a business in 2002, employs five and is a 'real' living wage employer. The company has been profitable for all but three years (after the recession hit).

The BBC regularly links to Rochdale Online articles from the BBC Manchester home page, the only non traditional newspaper website in the region to be considered by the BBC to be "authoritative and comprehensive".
Advertising revenue to date has come from selling space on the site to local companies, and we have an average of over 500 local advertisers at any one time - mainly private sector with a small amount of public sector, including the local council.
However, we are in the final stages of implementing additional national adverts via a deal recently negotiated with a national advertising agency.
