Stories from the BBC

Postby Martin Giles » Tue Jun 06, 2017 2:03 pm

I have read about the proposal for the BBC to provide stories for local news media.

In principle this might be one way to help with the difficult problem nearly all local news media has of making ends meet. However, in our case provision of court reports and permission to use images (with suitable credit of course) would be more useful than council stories which, frankly, at a borough level at least, we cover better than they do.

Additionally, their local radio services could include local politics programmes akin to Sunday Politics, say, where local political journalists discuss the week's local political news.

Certainly our local Council is happy to provide me with all their press releases etc and with a little bit of time checking enforcement orders and planning permissions I am normally as up to date as I need to be. The local BBC here is BBC Scotland so they very seldom do a story from my area unless it involves Gleneagles Hotel.

I agree, court stories with images would be useful.
