Video for Candidates in Elections

Postby chris.h@tamworthinformed.co.uk » Fri Apr 27, 2018 6:08 pm

At Tamworth informed we gave ALL candidates in the 2018 local council elections a 2 minute talking head video.
Well "up to" 2 minutes as some said what they wanted to say in anything between 50 and 120 seconds.
We gave every candidate two goes at recording and they or their colleagues decided which one felt better.
They were NOT edited in any way and were shown "as is"

Also we recorded all of them on the same set on the same day. This is Essential.

We did each of the two main parties in groups. One inthe morning and one in the afternoon (there were 10 of each) and the other candidates in the evening. This ensured that no one saw anything from a direct competitor.

Interestingly both Labour and Conservatives put a three line whip on it and they all turned out.
Lib-dems and the Independents all jumped at it.
Green and UKIP parties declined to take part.
We got them to decline in writing (email chain) and a copy of that was sent to the Local Democratic Services at the Council BEFORE we published the videos

We then did a page for the election and 10 sub pages one for each ward and had the videos inthe same order as the ballot paper.
The nominations closed on the Friday at 16:00 we recorded the videos on the Sunday and posted them before 08:00 on the Tuesday.

The results are here.

We have had positive responses from all the parties that took part and the population as a whole.

Very interesting Chris.

"We got them to decline in writing (email chain) and a copy of that was sent to the Local Democratic Services at the Council BEFORE we published the videos." Is this required by the council of just good practice on your part?
